This is what I am doing with my test blocks !! LOL
What can I spray on them to keep them from crumbling ?? Maybe a clear acrylic lacquer??
I was attempting to replicate these guys!!
-
@upwinger Quite accurate. How about a layer of interior plaster?
-
I sprayed the blockhead with rustoleaum faux granite paint, and a clear enamel on top to seal it.
It feels like a good skin seal . I'll see how it holds up to the weather. It looks like a real granite sculpture! LOL

The final product turned out fantastic! I had to move this thread to the "Showcase" category.

@Zander Thank you! I will add some more pics after I carve out a few more, just like on Easter Island, and get some healthy plants growing around them!!

@upwinger Moai from Rapa Nui. Nice work.

So we have had some good rainstorms so far in NorCal...
Most of the Rapa Nui's paint jobs held up pretty good.
I sealed them with concrete sealer (seen below), then painted them with faux stone -look spray paint.
Then sprayed them with a UV resisting urethane varnish.
Only two of them show hail or rain damage to the top layers. The sealed surface looks good.
Without the fake granite stone look, they appear to look like white marble statues you would see at a museum or at church. Here's some new pics ....

This is my favorite shot so far, cropped to my own liking. The "granite" finish photographs well in the direct light. The sun's angle on this one is really nice.

@Zander WOW! That pic does look better being cropped. I'll try to get some better pics after I repaint the rain damaged ones. I'm going to checkout a product called StoneCoat ... its a company in Oregon that makes epoxy coatings for counter tops....here's a link: link text
I'll find out if they have a product for exterior use.
