The workshop in Hawi is going great. This is my first workshop. Here are two videos I made a couple days ago.

I've been doing some research on Dome construction on Hawaii Island like everyone else.
Just wondering what had happened to this project? I heard it is incomplete..?
                    What are the reasons? -Aloha

@meg-and-steve Thanks for investigating into this rumor. Sorry for the delayed response (I took a 3-year off-grid break). When I left the Hawi site the dome had interior and exterior finish stucco, windows, and a door. I returned a few weeks later to find it painted (interior and exterior) and a pergo type floor was installed. The intention for this dome was to be a massage studio. Since I never finished this thread properly I can see how the rumor could have started. Here are two photos recently provided by the owner. The owners tell me that they are using the dome every day for massage, therapy, and meditation! DF469AF1-F961-4A0F-812F-02E8525EF215.jpeg Hawi dome with shower house.jpgalt text

Lessons learned. After 3 years of daily life in this dome, the owners have two big lessons learned that they are now sharing:

                        1. Definitely wait at least 30 days before painting your dome (or any other cementitious substrate) with a latex paint. They were in a bind to get it painted before the rainy season arrived and chose to paint it 14 days after the stucco was applied. The result was that that the paint peeled off.

                        2. Definitely put a plastic liner under your concrete or aircrete slab. They did not do this and as a result moisture from the ground wicks up and into the walls "like a sponge."

@zander Thanks for the detail shot on the meeting of the door and dome. That's very helpful for those who can't attend a workshop !

@zander I believe there should be metal flashing at domes bottom below stucco coat to carry moisture away from the foundation and walls. I just got samples of an artificial stone product used for cladding and even roofing.
