Has anyone experimented with mixing shredded/melted recycled plastics into aircrete blocks? Would it work?

I've heard talk of it, even on this forum. But I've not heard of anyone making the effort to actually experiment with it. The potential benefits just don't seem to be clear enough.

There is an incredible waste problem here in Dominica. Mixing it into blocks might keep it off the street...

I would add something with more insulative qualities to keep the house cool longer... think of something airy like Styrofoam. I feel like the plastic in #aircrete would be just a place to store waste. I personally would want something that adds some sort of structural, insulative, or aesthetic benefit if I'm going to add it to my building material. Good idea though. Look into earthships and see how they use waste to their structures. It serves a building purpose... Goodluck!

@freeupfarmDM I'd be curious knowing also. I think the size of the plastic particles would preferable be smaller than aggregate so as to not introduce microcracking over time. In the Dominican Republic styrofoam is a significant problem, there is some repurposing: http://www.appropedia.org/Practivistas_Dominicana_Program_invitation#Application

I am also interested in what other potential or ongoing challenges Domes will have with climate change and our current materials utilization i.e concrete vs. earthen/clay, plastic/polymer blends etc.

question: Have you tried putting the bottle in the aircrete without cement? The air pocket could be benificial. I wonder if it holds up....
